06 I Had a Moment Driving
Week 06 of 2024: I had a moment driving home last night during the Superbowl. While Kansas City Chiefs were struggling to capture a lead on the San Francisco 49ers, I was driving from Alabama through rain and storms. I looked around and noticed that I was surrounded by darkness. The flat terrain and 100’s of acres of farmland did not have the lights we would find in the city. So, the only guides I had were the solid yellow and white dashed lines in the road accompanied by the occasional highway sign. I had no option to focus on anything but what was ahead of me. It seemed a great lesson for life. I can remove the distractions from all around me, leaving only the path that lies in front of me. There was a moment at the top of a mountain road where the fog came with the rain, and I could only see about 10ft ahead of me. I was at the beginning part of the slope downwards. I was forced to use my brakes because at my current speed, I couldn’t navigate the turns quick enough. Like in life, there are times I must slow down or stop to make sure I’m not moving recklessly. I took a few deep breaths while driving. The rain, thunder, lightning, and fog kept me guessing and never allowed me a moment of comfort. Three and a half hours later, I was grateful to pull into my driveway. Then I was super glad that the game had gone into overtime, and I got to at least see 14 minutes of it. The Chiefs won. The lesson is full circle. Take your time but keep pressing forward through all obstacles. Stay on your path, ignoring the distractions around you.
