09 Worklife Balance
Week 09 of 2024: My brothers, Jerald Robinson, Angelo Robinson, and myself talked about the reality of work life balance for us this weekend. It’s not an even exchange by far. It ebbs and flows like the ocean tide coming and going as it pleases. Truly successful people understand that there are times when things are not as balanced as desired. They understand what it takes to reach higher levels and accomplish difficult goals. They are willing to sacrifice their time. And when that time is done, they live in the moment with family and friends. That being the key. To live fully in every moment, whether working or watching a movie with your kids. We pinpoint and lean into those things we love about our work, so that when it is 2am and the work is still going, you can find us smiling and sharing stories and snacking until there is only time to take a quick nap before we start the day. In our downtime, we play with the kids as if we are 15yrs old again. We share meals and have open invites to each other’s homes. We coordinate car shows, sport events, and tradeshows that we have the space to attend, and we enjoy the moments. Balance varies from person to person, so it can be a mistake to attempt to define balance for others as so many organizations attempt to do. Many end up losing productivity by so closely defining work hours. They are more likely to create anxiety and frustration as there is hardly enough time in a day to solve and complete difficult tasks. Imagine trusting your hires to finish projects by given deadlines with an open invitation to work as inspiration comes. Imagine giving family members an open invitation to visit and spend time with you. Our family thrives in this area. My father shows up randomly and it makes our hearts smile. By his example, we do each other the same. Overall, the balance flows and rises and falls as needed. We are those who accept the journey with no complaint and seek to live in and find positivity in every moment.
