2025 Week 07 – Growing Up Can Be Hard
Coming of age is one of the most difficult things in life that we all must face. As a youth, I remember feeling so small, like I didn’t matter and like no one cared about me. And there was never enough money. Even with early jobs and side hustles as a kid, the money seemed to never be enough. I struggled to fit in and eventually gave up and withdrew to my own isolated world. The journey is different for every child and just as some soar seamlessly through the times, others struggle at every turn. I’ve been mentoring at Tapp Middle School in Cobb County, Ga and was nervous at first. Each week I gain more confidence. I can sense the struggles that take place outside of the classroom. I am a witness to the daily distractions. I serve because I remember how hard middle school was for me, especially as a non-athlete. I hope to help inspire and motivate the kids to realize their value and begin immediately working towards owning and growing their self-worth. I wish they could understand just how much life they have left to live with their possibilities being endless. Giving back to the youth is by far one of my favorite activities.
