2025 Week 19 – Daily Success is Made of Many Small Actions
I woke up today and decided to take back my life. Actually, I do this most mornings though some are harder than others, and I don’t always get my way. Although some mornings seem harder than others, today was different. I won. I fought past the snooze button, dealt with my overgrown hair, and shaved my beard. A refreshing shower later, I found myself enjoying a homemade breakfast, soaking in the promise of a new day.
2025 Week 18 · A Little Wild — and That’s OK
My yard brims with plants, yet every spring I’m most eager for the wildflowers. They’re an unpredictable confetti: whatever palette nature feels like painting with that year suddenly appears.
2025 Week 17 – Gone but not Forgotten
When I first met my son Niree, he was just 8 years old. I came across this photo recently—me and him wrestling in the grass at his grandmother’s house. Clear blue skies, the kind of day that felt like everything was right in the world. It brings a smile to my face, even now. His mom was pregnant with his little brother Jett at the time. From day one, Niree and I clicked. He figured out pretty quick that I was just a big country kid myself, and he leaned into that. He spent hours outside. And if it had even a hint of danger to it? Oh, he was all in. Climbing trees, skating down steep hills, lighting fireworks he somehow found in the basement… fearless.
2025 Week 15 – Finding the Joy in the Shift: Lessons from my Nephews
We all know that feeling – the ground shifting beneath our feet. Change can be disorienting, a landscape where the familiar suddenly looks… different. It's easy to get lost in that feeling of the unknown. But what if we approached change with the open-minded curiosity of a child discovering a new game? I once watched my nephews play the large version of Connect 4. They didn't miss the smaller, tabletop version; they embraced the new, strategizing and celebrating each connection.
2025 Week 12 – The True Value of Time: A Lesson in Work-Life Balance
Work-life balance has been a trending topic for years, yet for most of my career, I struggled to find it. Looking back at photos like this one from 2019, I’m reminded of why it’s so important to make time for the people we love—away from work, away from the daily grind.
