2025 Week 12 – The True Value of Time: A Lesson in Work-Life Balance

Work-life balance has been a trending topic for years, yet for most of my career, I struggled to find it. Looking back at photos like this one from 2019, I’m reminded of why it’s so important to make time for the people we love—away from work, away from the daily grind.

In this moment, I stood beside my oldest son (R.I.P.), months after he dyed his hair blue and declared he was going by the name Dr. Bluezz. By then, the color had faded to a greenish-yellow, slowly returning to black. My youngest son was right behind me, focused and preparing for his next breakdancing battle. My brother Josh, now living on the West Coast, leaned in close to the camera, sharing a story with my niece—one that, judging by her expression, she may or may not have believed. She’s now in college in North Carolina, but back then, she and my son were students at Rockwell Dance Academy, traveling across the Southeast for dance competitions.

That era was beautiful. It was filled with long road trips, laughter, music, and the kind of memories that no amount of money can recreate. Today, 2 out of the 5 faces in this photo aren’t easily reachable, and 1 has transitioned into the next life.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, chasing success, deadlines, and financial security—but at what cost? If we aren’t careful, we can work ourselves right out of existence, missing the very moments that make life meaningful.

I’m making a promise to myself: to be more present, to carve out time for the people I love, and to even embrace new connections along the way. Work will always be there. Time, however, will not.

Make the memories now. Tomorrow is never promised.
