2025 Week 15 – Finding the Joy in the Shift: Lessons from my Nephews
We all know that feeling – the ground shifting beneath our feet. Change can be disorienting, a landscape where the familiar suddenly looks… different. It's easy to get lost in that feeling of the unknown. But what if we approached change with the open-minded curiosity of a child discovering a new game? I once watched my nephews play the large version of Connect 4. They didn't miss the smaller, tabletop version; they embraced the new, strategizing and celebrating each connection.
Children possess this incredible ability to find their "joy" in most anything, readily adjusting to new circumstances without the layers of preconceived notions that often cloud our adult perspectives. They pivot, they explore, and they discover the fun in the unexpected.
It's a powerful reminder that "different" isn't inherently "worse." In fact, it often opens doors to new possibilities and unexpected adventures. Think about it – this month, this year, even this entire decade is but a fleeting moment on the grand timeline of our 4.5-billion-year-old planet. Change isn't an anomaly; it's the constant, the very fabric of existence, pushing us forward.
Of course, navigating change isn't always easy. There will be cloudy days, moments of uncertainty. But just like the sun eventually breaks through, there's a fundamental truth I hold onto: things have a way of working out. Sometimes, the best approach is to be open, be ready to pivot, and perhaps even sit still until the path forward becomes clear.
