DAY 106 – Listen Twice
I attended the With P.A.S.S.I.O.N. virtual workshop with Lincoln Kokaram and got so many gems that I will be sharing. They were good reminders of lessons once taught. One that particularly stood out was that “we have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen twice as much as we speak.” I remember as a child, I would be playing or watching tv and my parents would tell me to go get something from another room. When I get to the room, I would have forgotten most of what they said. At that moment I knew I was in trouble. The hardest thing to face was walking back empty handed and having to ask them to please repeat what they said. Fast forward 20yrs and imagine having to return to your spouse, partner, manager, or director with the same question. If it becomes a pattern of behavior, then it becomes a problem for whoever you deal with. It is never too late to learn this lesson, that I was fortunate to learn in childhood. We should listen twice as much as we speak…
