DAY 056 Living in the Past
It is hard to dismiss our past accolades. I have a shelf full of trophies and awards that I have gotten throughout my life. I know people in their 40’s still boasting of high school sports feats. I can sense their genuine excitement, so I know the feeling is real. The danger comes when we fail to move forward and strive to be better. I was once manager of the quarter at AutoTrader / COX Automotive, but I wouldn’t dare approach new jobs and projects as if I deserved a hand up because of that. You rarely get a team full of superstars at a company with the best benefits where everyone makes their desired salaries and customers never complain. See how far-fetched that sounds?
DAY 048 - Create Strong Children
My youngest son is becoming a man. He is excelling in some areas, while I must push him and direct him in others. He is about to be 17 and this is the most difficult stage of parenting that I have ever experienced. He is an artist like me. A creative that can sew a custom hoodie one morning, jump down six flights of steps on his skateboard that afternoon, and dance like he floats on clouds doing air flares that night at a breakin competition. I’m heading into the last year of high school with a young man that thinks he has life figured out, that struggles asking for help (unless its for money, he has no problems with that), and seems to want to figure the world out on his own. One thing that I have learned from my own father is that parenting never stops, even when it is difficult. As hard as it is, I do understand that “It is easier to create strong boys than to repair broken men.”
DAY 036 He who controls images controls minds
Even before I was introduced to the world of digital asset management, I understood the power of great imagery that could tell stories at 1st glance. I knew that perception is reality in a society where your image travels to places in the time it takes you to blink twice. Brand management is about taking ownership of your image. It is entirely possible to sculpt stories of anything you can desire and create alternate realities. All with the use of imagery shared across channels. Own your image.
Day 010 - Digging Off Our Own Dirt
As we grow into adulthood we often have to dig off the dirt that was thrown on us. No one else will do it nor will they control the dirt being thrown. Actor Marvin "Krondon" Jones III speaks about the 5 Ps (parents, partners, peoples, places, and positions) who all throw dirt throughout life whether warranted or not.
Day 008 - Silence is my SuperPower
But as I started to meet friends with shared interest and other like minded people, I found comfort in talking and building with them. I learned early in life that Roaring lions kill no game...
