DAY 228 – Think Before You Give
If you have to think before you give, you are trading not giving. I didn’t like this statement when I first read it. Because I reserve the right to think before I give. Then I realized that there are times that I don’t think before I give. Times when I have given my last without a second thought. Times when I have voluntarily given without being asked to. These moments are genuine and full of love and care. We never have to mention those moments. They don’t get shared across social media for likes, comments, or reviews. There are no credits given publicly or privately. When I have needed help in anyway, the last thing I would have wanted was to log onto Instagram or Facebook and see a story about me getting the help I needed. Then I think that it IS ok to trade. There are times when we should fully expect to be paid back or have the favor we gave returned as agreed. Especially in those moments where there is a spoken or understood agreement. Every situation is different. I’ve learned that if I expect anything in return from my giving, I must clearly communicate that, and in those cases, I only give when I can afford to.
