DAY 042 Keep Your Eyes Focused on Where You Want to Go
A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to do the Porsche Driving Experience hosted by our Google Partners. Little did they know, I was terrified. I drove a Ford Fusion Hybrid then and had never been known for driving fast. By the end of the day, my personal confidence was on 9000 and I felt like there wasn’t anything I could not accomplish. I drove on wet concrete, was forced to spin out of control, had to drive as fast as the car would go and slam the brakes, and finally had to race on the track with minimum use of the breaks. Talk about existing outside of your comfort zone! The instructor always told me to keep me eyes on where I wanted to be.
DAY 041 – Love Doesn’t Naturally Have Limits
I am convinced that the faults we have with love are of our own making. To love a job, career, or even a person must be unconditional to be fully appreciated and grown from the infant stages that it starts from. This is the hardest part of loving. To have love not subject to any conditions seems almost impossible as we grow older, learn more, and gain experience. When things go wrong, we use old and newly discovered faults to build walls between us. We begin to journey on separate paths rather than work together to reestablish common ground. This is where the limits begin to take shape. The walls become so high, and the paths become so far apart that we lose sight of the 1st love we felt, often finding, and establishing new love in the process.
DAY 040 – It’s OK to NOT be Ok
On this week’s HERshyt Show Episode 046 the ladies talk about it being ok to not be ok. Last night, as I sat on a couch across from one brother and beside another in near silence, I could feel the tiredness in the room as my phone rang with yet another brother on the phone. Yes, I have a large family. Yes, we are often not ok. Over the years we have learned to talk about our problems, but there is still that pressure of being the type of men that do the opposite. It is comfortable to hold things in and work through it. I sat there thinking that I haven’t taken a vacation since Spring Break of 2021
DAY 039 The Power and Magic in Faith
Faith in ourselves is the beginning of our individually unique abilities to overcome anything. To truly believe in yourself is a powerful magic. After we have cried and slept through days and talked with others, there is always a moment where we must decide to make a move. Do something. I have personally experienced moments where I didn’t want to get out of bed. Moments where I felt so defeated that I imagined the whole world was against me. Well, that and listening to Tupac’s “Me Against the World” on repeat. Then there comes the moment where I summon all the strength in my soul and before I know it, I’m up and about. Taking one step at a time, I work the plan I have imagined. Each completed step feels like a magical victory.
DAY 038 - Knowing What NOT to Fear
We had fantastic working sessions this weekend. Archiving footage and photos brought back beautiful memories. We saw people in our theatrical shows from the early 2000’s that have gone on to become actors, actresses, musicians, and wonderful souls who uplift those around them on a weekly basis. I came across video from the days we would travel to Atlanta’s Auburn Ave district and not only feed the homeless, but we would spend time, talk, and even pray with them. All things that I had some amount of fear and hesitancy prior to starting. They say that courage is knowing what not to fear.
