I fully believe that we should move forward through our lives as if there are zero limits to our abilities. We should first clarify that our abilities are our means and skill to do something. So, I am not saying that I can jump across buildings and slide down walls because my abilities do not include parkour. This is a reason that I believe it is super important for us to identify and develop our skills early in life. Art and Design continues to open doors for me. The sky is not the limit.

My youngest son is becoming a man. He is excelling in some areas, while I must push him and direct him in others. He is about to be 17 and this is the most difficult stage of parenting that I have ever experienced. He is an artist like me. A creative that can sew a custom hoodie one morning, jump down six flights of steps on his skateboard that afternoon, and dance like he floats on clouds doing air flares that night at a breakin competition. I’m heading into the last year of high school with a young man that thinks he has life figured out, that struggles asking for help (unless its for money, he has no problems with that), and seems to want to figure the world out on his own. One thing that I have learned from my own father is that parenting never stops, even when it is difficult. As hard as it is, I do understand that “It is easier to create strong boys than to repair broken men.”

I have a lot of clients from my past that I still check on. I visit the old websites I designed looking for growth. I see if the brand has grown well. There are those that make me smile SUPER BIG! When I go to websites or social media pages and am unable to find any links to work that I either completed or assisted in the creation of, I do feel a way. I want growth for them all. I desire success for everyone. One that I have been particularly proud of is the Black Health Matters Movement. I remember talking with Rosalyn Daniels and hearing her lay out a plan of the whats, whens, and hows of Black Health Matters. It sounded like an enormous feat to even imagine. She spoke with confidence, and I knew that she had great experience from her background and existing network.

I seen someone put potato chips on their sandwich on a Publix commercial and it made me smile. I have been wondering why there is so much content that is hard to relate to. Thinking these companies have been scarred by cancel culture. They seem scared to take risk. See, we grew up eating potato chip sandwiches. Though not like the ones they had on the commercial which had plenty of deli meats, lettuce, cheese and tomatoes, I found it a beautiful risk to relate to those of us who do things differently.

My father always preached to us that a tree is known by the fruit it bears. A lot of the things that I was taught as a child did not make sense until I was an adult and after experiencing the situations. It took me a while to realize that whether we intentionally tried to or not, we all live out loud. Meaning the perception of us is an aggregation of what others see, what others hear, and mostly what we do with our lives.  Knowing that, I practice being a person of good character, spreading peace, and being a servant leader.
