DAY 224 – Doing More than You Are Responsible For

Success is being willing to do more than you are being paid for. I learned this through trial and error. No college class taught me this. No mentor sat me down to deliver this message. While a designer at AutoTrader I recognized that around the holiday’s most people took time off and were in a rush to leave to get home each day. I started working those hours and saving my vacations for after. When directors would come to the creative floor looking for help with last minute pitches, I would often be the only person around skilled enough to create their visions. I never said no back then.

Day 217 – Not Your Average

You cannot do ordinary stuff and expect unique results. I’ve fought for my entire life to not be average. I was never the type that wanted to fit in. So as my goals and aspirations grow, I fully understand that I have to do some things that are out of the ordinary. There are times like now when I go to bed designing or developing digital content then beat my alarm to wake up and do some more.

DAY 125 - Leading by Example

I promise that I can tell my kids exactly how to overcome an obstacle and they will nod their heads and walk away and do the exact opposite. Then someone else can come along and tell them the exact same thing and they will report back to me as if they just got the best advice in their life! This deeply frustrated me for the longest time. I eventually learned to accept it and simply lead by example.

Day 215 - Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

It occurs to me that when you are working towards doing the seemingly impossible, most people will only be able to focus on what you “can’t” do. It is super important for us to learn to focus on what we can do despite the noise around us.
